On Friday morning at the Casamance private hospital, surgeon Patrick Noël performed his first video surgery live on the web for the 3,000 surgeons attending the congress in Rome, Italy.
This specialist in bariatric surgery works with his team to treat patients suffering from major obesity for whom various attempts at weight loss have failed.
During the broadcast of the operation, performed by laparoscopic incision of the abdominal wall, Patrick Noël explained the possible techniques and the operating phases live with the Italian surgeon, relaying questions from the delegates.
Of course, not all the delegates present at the conference use the same surgical techniques, and Dr Noël highlighted the advantages and disadvantages of different practices. With 1,600 operations under his belt, Patrick Noël is in favour of the sleeve gastrectomy technique (removal of part of the stomach), and he also shared his experience of the procedure.
He recommends using the left hand to move certain viscera out of the way so that the right hand can be better positioned. This practice changes the way the operation is performed, reduces the operating time, limits or even eliminates secondary complications and lowers the costs to society, advice that the congress participants appreciated and applauded.
After these exchanges of procedures, he indicated that the patient will very quickly regain his autonomy with an appropriate diet. Weight loss will be significant, as long as the patient follows the new lifestyle protocol, which will also improve all aspects of his or her health.
Once again, La Casamance private hospital confirms its excellence and international reputation with these scientific publications in the field of obesity treatment.
