The French National Cancer Institute (INCA) has published a review of what is known about the benefits of physical activity for cancer patients.
The French National Cancer Institute (INCA) has published an update on the benefits of physical activity for cancer patients.
This report concludes that physical activity is beneficial in terms of :
- preventing or correcting physical deconditioning ;
- maintaining and/or normalising body composition; and
- a reduction in cancer-related fatigue and an overall improvement in quality of life;
- improved tolerance of treatments and their medium- and long-term effects;
- longer life expectancy and reduced risk of recurrence.
On the basis of this knowledge, the French National Cancer Institute is recommending that physical activity be included in the basket of supportive oncology care.
With this in mind, Hôpital Privé La Casamance has been offering a supportive cancer care programme called " C.A.P. Santé " for Combat, Agir, Partager pour la santé since 2016.
This programme, which is fully reimbursed by the social security system on medical prescription, enables cancer patients to take part in "fitness and physical activity" sessions supervised by an adapted physical activity teacher and a physiotherapist.
They can also benefit from dietary and therapeutic care based around dietary sessions and therapeutic meals, which include advice on healthy eating to help optimise diet during treatment.
Lastly, group psychotherapy sessions complete the care package, enabling patients to exchange and share their experiences. These groups provide an opportunity to find support. They cover relaxation, well-being and meditation techniques.
The earlier physical activity is introduced (or maintained) in the treatment process, the more beneficial it will be for the patient.
If you are interested in the programme, please contact the secretariat on 04.91.88.47.25 for further information.
If you wish to take part in the programme, a medical prescription is required.
