Your outpatient stay

You (or your child) are about to undergo outpatient surgery in our clinic. Please read the information in this booklet carefully and follow the instructions carefully.

After your consultation with the specialist

As soon as the date of your operation has been set, don't forget to make an appointment with an anaesthetist at least 48 hours before the day of your operation. Carry out all the tests prescribed. Go to the pharmacy and pick up the antiseptic soap that has been prescribed for you. You will need it to shower the day before and the morning of the operation.

The day before the operation

You will be called to confirm that the operation will take place and to remind you of the instructions to be followed:

  • In the evening, eat a light, alcohol-free meal,
  • From midnight onwards, do not eat anything, i.e. :
    • Do not eat (including chewing gum)
    • Do not drink
    • Do not smoke
  • Take your usual medicines, unless contraindicated by the anaesthetist,
  • Take a shower with half a bottle of Betadine Srub or Hibiscrub if you are allergic to iodine.

The pre-operative shower :

  • Remove all jewellery and nail varnish,
  • Wet your body and hair,
  • Shampoo with antiseptic soap,
  • Wash from top to bottom,
  • Concentrate on the navel, submammary folds, nails, interdigital spaces, feet and genito-anal area,
  • Rinse hair and body thoroughly,
  • Dry off with a clean towel,
  • Put on clean pyjamas.

The morning of the operation

  • If you are taking any medication, follow the instructions given to you by the anaesthetist,
  • Stay on an empty stomach (unless there are special instructions),
  • Take a shower with the rest of the antiseptic bottle (same technique as the day before) without shampooing,
  • Brush your teeth,
  • Do not use make-up or nail varnish,
  • Don't wear any jewellery or piercings,
  • Put your glasses, contact lenses and dentures away.

Don't forget to bring the following with you on the day you are admitted to hospital:

  • Your latest test results as requested by the surgeon or anaesthetist,
  • Your last valid prescription and your treatment,
  • Your administrative documents (identity papers, health insurance card, etc.).
For security reasons, please do not bring anything of value with you.
