Policy and programme for continuous improvement in quality and safety of care

Hôpital Privé La Casamance has been committed for several years to a continuous improvement approach to the quality and safety of care. The Quality and Risk Management Department is responsible for implementing this approach by defining, implementing and monitoring an annual action programme. The action programme takes into account the improvement priorities defined at national level, regulations, malfunctions and risks identified internally, the results of evaluations and patient satisfaction surveys.

To give us your opinion on your stay, please complete the discharge questionnaire and drop it in the letterboxes in front of the secretariats or hand it in to the secretary. The results of patient satisfaction assessments are displayed in the corridors of each department and in the hospital lobby.

In addition, you may be asked by the French National Authority for Health to give your opinion on your stay by completing an online questionnaire (more information on e-satis).

Management of risks associated with care and prevention of nosocomial infections

The Quality and Risk Steering Committee and the Feedback Committee are at the heart of the system. Reported undesirable events are analysed collectively and corrective action is taken. Similarly, risk situations are identified and risk prevention or reduction measures are implemented.

The Operational Hygiene Team (EOH) assists the Institutional Medical Conference (CME) in proposing measures to combat nosocomial infections. It draws up an annual action programme (assessment of practices, dissemination of protocols, monitoring actions, staff training, etc.). The EOH draws on the experience of a regional network, the CCLIN Sud-Est, and deploys actions to combat Nosocomial Infections with the hospital hygiene correspondents in each department.

Despite all the measures put in place, the risk of contracting a nosocomial infection is not zero, but it is possible to limit its frequency and seriousness by scrupulously observing basic hygiene rules. Hand hygiene is the most important "good practice" for preventing healthcare-associated infections, and you can use the Hydroalcoholic Products provided. Before any surgical operation, you should also make sure you follow the pre-operative skin preparation protocol.

For more information, please contact the nursing team.

Quality and safety of medication management

The Medicines Committee works with the CME (Conférence Médicale d'Etablissement) to define policy on medicines and sterile medical devices. It ensures the safe, appropriate and efficient use of medicines by patients. It implements measures to ensure the safety of all stages in the management of medicinal products (prescribing, dispensing, storage, administration of medicinal products, etc.).

Combating pain

Our establishment is committed to combating your pain and relieving it as effectively and appropriately as possible.

Your participation is important

The more information you provide about your pain, the more quickly and effectively your carers will be able to alleviate it.

Only you can describe your pain. To help us tailor your treatment more effectively, you can tell us "how much" it hurts by noting your pain on a scale from 0 to 10, or by using a scale that the care team will give you. A guide will be given to you and explained to you on the day you are admitted.

A Pain Management Committee (Comité de Lutte contre la Douleur - CLUD) has been set up within the establishment to define pain management policy and coordinate the actions implemented by the pain referents in each department. Its membership is displayed in the establishment's lobby.

Transfusion

A Transfusion Safety and Haemovigilance Committee (CSTH) has been set up within the hospital. It is responsible for defining, implementing and monitoring all transfusion risk management measures within the establishment (traceability, implementation of good practice guidelines, patient information, staff training, evaluation of practices, etc.).

If you need or are likely to need a transfusion, the doctor treating you will inform you beforehand and the nursing staff will give you an explanatory booklet.

Before any transfusion

A pre-transfusion assessment is carried out in accordance with the regulations. This involves identifying your immuno-haematological status (blood group) and testing for irregular antibodies (RAI). In some cases, this may also include a serological test for hepatitis B, C and the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

Other committees

Other committees are also involved in the quality and safety of care and services: the care committee, which steers initiatives to improve care practices and organisation; the identity surveillance unit, which is responsible for ensuring that patient identification is reliable at every stage; the hotel liaison committee, which steers the hotel project (catering, maintenance of premises); the operating theatre users' committee, which coordinates initiatives relating to the organisation of the operating theatre; and the users' commission(see "Your rights and duties").

Certification of health establishments

The hospital has been certified (V2014) for the 5th time by the Haute Autorité de Santé. This procedure, carried out by independent health experts, aims to guarantee a high level of safety and quality in patient care. The certification report can be consulted at www.has-sante.fr

In addition, a large number of internal evaluations are carried out in order to constantly improve our practices.

Some of the results can be consulted on the board in the establishment's lobby and on the Qualiscope website.

Public health

Organ donation

Organ or tissue donation can save a life or improve the health of another patient. Whether you are for or against organ donation, your choice should be made known to those close to you, to help them in these difficult circumstances.

In France, there is no "Yes" register. In the name of national solidarity, the principle of presumed consent has been chosen. The law states that we are all organ and tissue donors, unless we have expressed our refusal to be removed during our lifetime. The main way to oppose the removal of your organs and tissues after death is to register on the national refusal register.

For more information, contact the Agence de biomédecine in Marseille on 04.91.56.52.17, or visit the websites www.agence-biomedecine.fr or www.dondorganes.fr.

Our establishment is a partner of the Agence de biomédecine. The guide to organ donation "Donor or not... I know about my relatives, they know about me" is available in the waiting room of the intensive care unit or at reception.

Blood donation

Almost 3 million donations are needed every year in France. Blood transfusions save the lives of tens of thousands of patients every year. Anyone in good health aged between 18 and 60 (or 70) can give blood.

Donors are welcomed every working day by the Etablissement Français du Sang or at blood drives organised in towns and businesses every day.
